West Lancs Named a British Sailing Pathway Club

West Lancs Yacht Club is one of the first clubs in the country to receive the new British Sailing Pathway Club status, reflecting our focus on junior sailing, helping more young people get on the water, learn to race, and develop a lifelong love of sailing.
The new status means we'll get support from British Sailing and the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) to develop our junior sailing programmes even further. We're all about making sailing accessible to every child in Southport, offering good coaching in a friendly, team-based environment for beginners and those aiming to compete.
As part of the national Pathway Club scheme, West Lancs will keep growing its junior programme and creating more chances for young sailors locally. Whether kids want to race competitively or just have fun on the water, West Lancs is here to help them get started and keep going.
At West Lancs, we're focused on building from the base: providing grassroots access to sailing for every child in Southport, supporting our junior sailors as they develop, and giving those with the ambition and talent the chance to go even further. The Pathway Club initiative, launched by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), helps clubs like ours nurture the next generation of sailors whether they're aiming for the Olympics or simply discovering the joy of racing at their local club.
By offering high-quality coaching and training in a friendly, affordable, and team-oriented environment, WLYC is becoming a hub for young talent not just future champions, but lifelong sailors too, developing confidence and social skills while meeting the technical and physical challenges of the sport.
