WLYC Code of Conduct

1748889 orig

This code of conduct outlines the courteous and safe behaviours which members of West Lancashire Yacht Club can expect from each other. Every member is responsible for following the WLYC Code of Conduct and guiding fellow members, guests and visitors. The Club committee listens to members' concerns and investigates formal complaints.

WLYC members value and respect fellow members, guests and visitors, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and enjoyment of Club facilities. Our ethos is welcoming, cooperative and caring, learning from others and collaborating in the mutual interest. We engage openly with fellow lake users and our local community.

Parents and Responsible Adults

  • Parents and responsible adults must always be available to support the development, safety and safeguarding of junior sailors
  • We all sail for enjoyment and learn from mistakes and we know children are no different
  • We help junior members participate in the range of Club activities on and off the water so they develop a range of life skills
  • We must provide junior sailors with guidance on suitable clothing, food, drink and sun protection to make sailing a safe and enjoyable sport
  • Parents and responsible adults provide contact and medical details when required and take responsibility for their child's safety and conduct in and around the clubhouse or at outside event venues

Instructors, Coaches, Officials and Volunteers

  • We must hold relevant, up to date RYA qualifications and safeguarding certificates
  • We act as behavioural role models to ensure the safety of trainees and fellow instructors
  • We always place the wellbeing, safety and development of participants before performance, ensuring activities are appropriate for the age, maturity, ability and experience of those taking part
  • We encourage and guide trainees to accept responsibility for their own conduct and performance
