Coronavirus Update (2020-06-11)
Great News from The Commodore
Return to Sailing Update - Re-opening the Club.
At last, I have some great news to tell you regarding sailing at WLYC.
Sefton Council have announced that from Friday (12th June) the Lake will be open for the sailing of private boats.
I believe that this is a consequence of our representations to the Council regarding our status as residents of the borough, rather than being categorised with visiting tourists.
The Council have said ....
"As of the 12th June, Southport Marine Lake will be open for sailing, canoeing, paddle boarding etc. The lake will not be open to day trippers / holiday makers. Please remember you have a responsibility to adhere to social distancing regulations as laid out by Central Government. Please ensure measures are in place to protect you and your members from any further risk to Covid-19. I hope to visit you all over the next week or so in my official capacity, so I can be confident Sefton Council is fulfilling its obligations to protect those individuals using the Marine Lake for recreational pursuits."
We will publish new Operating Guidelines for Restricted Sailing at WLYC on the website by the end of today.
Please read them before you visit the Club and observe government guidance.
If you are intending to sail, please ensure that you have a current Lake Licence.
As a WLYC Member, please be aware that you will be scrutinised by the general public when you are sailing.
We are back in business
