Car Parking At The 24 Hour Race

Sefton Council recently informed us that for those attending the 24 Hour Race (competitors, supporters and club members) the charge for the tickets for the Marine Drive, Public Car Park has been increased from £1.10 to £4.20 for the weekend. The 24 Hour Race Committee challenged this ruling but our bid was unsuccessful. We further asked for a dispensation for all those volunteers helping to run the event; once again our request was not accepted. Being informed so close to the event has made managing this significant change in policy very difficult to implement, and we ask for your understanding.

Please note the following:

Marine Drive Public Car Park:

All cars parked in the Designated Marine Drive 24 Hour Race Car Parks off the WLYC site must display a “WLYC 24 Hr Race 2018 (Member / Helper)” permit, together with a £4.20 “Pay & Display” ticket purchased from a parking meter.
Do not use a mobile phone to pay for the parking ticket.

Please note the times below when the Parking Permits are valid.

  • On the Public Car Park north of the sluice gates adjacent to the club, this ticket is valid from Friday 06:00 to Sunday 20:00.
  • On the Public Car Park south of the sluice gates adjacent to Waterside Lodge, this ticket is valid from Friday 20.00 to Sunday 20.00.
If you arrive earlier and need to park on this car park before Friday 20.00, you will need to pay for a £4.20 parking “Pay and Display” ticket for the Friday up to 20.00 and then a further £4.20 for the “Pay and Display” ticket for Friday 20.00 onwards to Sunday 20.00.

These public car park permits will be available from Phil, the Club steward, in the club from Sat 1 Sep onwards.

Club Car Park:

As usual the normal Club Car Park will be used for the Grandstand, Scrutineers cabin, First Aid Centre and supplementary toilets. Additionally, with the possibility of 75+ entries, we shall need to use the normal Club Car Park as an extension of the 24 Hour Race Dinghy Park. Therefore, there are only a very limited number of spaces available in the Club Car Park and access to the Club Car Park will be restricted to those displaying a “Club Car Park” permit.
These will be made available on a specific requirement basis such as:

  • To Members and visitors who are disabled or have limited mobility.
  • To Members who require close access to the Club for security reasons e,g. the Club Treasurer.
  • To Members, visitors and sponsors who need to load/off-load items or equipment associated with the race organisation.

For the 2019 event we shall make representations to the council for a review of this policy.
