Welcome to West Lancashire Yacht Club

Monkhouse Cup 003a

Our Club is located on the Marine Lake at Southport which provides safe sailing waters for sailors of all abilities. We are a family orientated Club and have a variety of sailing and social activities throughout the year. Our Clubhouse has accessible facilities.

The Club is proud to be recognised as a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Training Establishment and as a Champion Club for our support of Junior and Youth Sailing. We offer a ‘learn to sail’ course for the complete beginner and skills development courses for more experienced sailors. These courses are available to both members and non-members.

For those wishing to race we have a regular Club racing from March to October.
We also sail on the sea at Ainsdale during the summer months.

Members who refurbished the Wall End Buoy.We have a growing number of Club members who sail and race radio-controlled boats throughout the year.

Some of our members have offshore boats which are berthed in locations far and wide.

Follow the links to find out more about our Club.
We offer a warm welcome to visitors and would be pleased to show you our Club.

Please contact us to arrange a convenient time for us to meet you.

Road Closures

Friday 6th to Sunday 8th September 2019

Southport Air Show

Following on from 2018, this year the Southport Air Show is again extended to include an evening of flying 6pm - 8:30pm on Fri 6th September. The site layout for all 3 days will be the same as in previous years: on the beach and along Marine Drive. For Sat 7th and Sun 8th the event will commence at 10 am, and finish around 5:30pm Sat / Sun

Road Closures

With over 40,000 people expected over the weekend with site security, plus health and safety obligations inevitably there will be extensive road closures on beach, Marine Drive and Coastal Rd areas.

Planned closures are:

  • Weds 4th Sept 10am till midnight Mon 9th Sept Pleasureland Roundabout to Marine Parade Roundabout.

In addition:

    • Fri 6th Sept 4:30pm - 10pm / site clearance. Coastal Road from Weld Rd Roundabout to Pleasureland Roundabout; Marine Drive from Fairways Roundabout to Marine Parade Roundabout plus Esplanade/Victoria Park Roundabout to Pleasureland Roundabout; lastly, the Esplanade from Weld Roundabout to Esplanade / Victoria Park Roundabout.
    • Sat 7th & Sun 8th Sept 6am - 7pm / site clearance. Same roads closed as Fri evening, just different times.

WLYC Access:

As in previous years, vehicle access to WLYC during the air show closure periods should be via the Fairways Roundabout at the north end of the Marine Lake. The event planners have asked any of our members wanting access to produce appropriate identification eg 2019 Club Handbook / Diary, Club Car Sticker (if you need one, see Phil, the Club Steward). We have sent examples of these to the event organisation to enable the stewards to permit authorised access at Fairways Roundabout.
